Man with Torch and Flare G*n Arrested at Capitol Visitor Center

A man was arrested on Tuesday at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center (CVC) after authorities discovered he was carrying a torch, a flare gun, and containers smelling of gasoline, according to the U.S. Capitol Police (USCP).

The incident began when the man, undergoing routine security screening, caught officers’ attention due to the odor of fuel. During the screening, officers spotted both a flare gun and a torch in his possession. Upon further inspection, law enforcement found two containers that emitted a strong gasoline smell when opened.

The man was quickly handcuffed, and police discovered he had a notebook he claimed was intended for members of Congress. The specifics of its contents were not disclosed, but the unusual items raised immediate concern.

USCP released a statement on the incident: “Our officers just arrested a man who was stopped during our screening process at the Capitol Visitor Center (CVC). The man smelled like fuel, had a torch & a flare gun.”

Due to the potential safety risks, Capitol officials decided to close the Visitor Center for the rest of the day.

The arrest highlights the importance of routine security measures at federal buildings, especially in areas frequently visited by the public. With ongoing security concerns at the Capitol, the response by USCP underscores efforts to maintain a safe environment for visitors and staff. The incident is currently under further investigation to determine any possible motives or additional threats.
