Trump Steadfast in the Spotlight as Key Red States Line Up Behind Him in 2024 Victory
Former President Donald Trump has secured key wins across several solidly Republican states in the 2024 presidential election, according to projections from Decision Desk HQ. In a series of victories in traditionally red territories, Trump added South Dakota, North Dakota, Louisiana, Kansas, Wyoming, and Texas to his electoral tally.
In South Dakota, Trump received overwhelming support, echoing his past wins in the state, where he led by significant margins over his opponents. South Dakota’s three electoral votes added to Trump’s count, marking another Republican win in a state that hasn’t supported a Democratic presidential candidate since 1964.
North Dakota also backed Trump, awarding him three additional electoral votes. North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, a staunch supporter of Trump on the campaign trail after his own unsuccessful presidential bid, could be in line for a role in Trump’s administration, potentially as Energy Secretary.

In Louisiana, Trump’s victory secured eight electoral votes. Known as a conservative stronghold, Louisiana last swung blue in 1996 with President Bill Clinton. Trump maintained a similar level of support as in his previous bids, keeping the Pelican State firmly in the Republican column.
Kansas, often reliable for Republicans, awarded Trump its six electoral votes. The Sunflower State has consistently chosen Republican presidential candidates since 1964, and Trump’s win aligns with past victories, where he received around 56 percent of the vote.
Wyoming, the least populated state with three electoral votes, also leaned heavily Republican. Trump’s previous victories in Wyoming have come with a substantial margin, and his win this year follows a pattern of strong support in the state. Notably, Wyoming has been in the national spotlight as former Representative Liz Cheney became a prominent critic of Trump. Trump’s remarks about Cheney during a recent event in Arizona prompted significant backlash and even a state-level investigation in Arizona over whether his comments might be considered a threat.

Finally, in Texas, Trump secured a crucial win, keeping the state red with its 40 electoral votes. While Texas has long leaned Republican, recent elections have shown a narrowing margin. A highly publicized Senate race between Republican Senator Ted Cruz and Democratic Representative Colin Allred created a surge in Democratic enthusiasm, with Vice President Harris even hosting a rally in Houston. However, this momentum fell short in shifting the state’s presidential vote, underscoring Texas's continued preference for the GOP.
